How We Apply Terrace Waterproofing
The process below is the same standard 3-coat method used with reflective damp-proof systems such as Asian Paints SmartCare Damp Proof, and is broadly similar across major waterproofing brands:
- Surface cleaning: The terrace is scrubbed with a wire brush and then washed with a high-pressure machine. This step matters more than most homeowners expect, waterproofing coating applied over loose dust or debris fails prematurely.
- Crack filling: Cracks up to 1 to 1.5mm are packed using a crack-seal paste applied with a putty knife, pressed firmly so the sealant sits inside the crack rather than sitting on top of it.
- First coat (primer): The waterproofing compound is diluted roughly 3 parts material to 1 part water and applied by brush in a horizontal direction, worked into low spots and pits.
- Second coat: Applied undiluted using a roller in a vertical direction, after the first coat has dried, typically a 4 to 6 hour gap.
- Third coat: Applied undiluted, back in the horizontal direction, completing the 3-layer system.
One detail most contractors won't mention: reflective damp-proof coatings are supplied in white for a reason, the white finish is what reflects heat. Tinting it with colour to match your terrace look reduces its heat-reflective performance, so we don't offer that as an option regardless of what's requested.
What the Warranty Actually Covers
This is worth knowing before you hire anyone: waterproofing material manufacturers typically warranty the product itself, not the quality of the workmanship. The applicator or contractor is the one who stands behind the actual job.
