Water Tank Waterproofing in Jaipur

A leaking water tank costs you three ways at once: the water you lose, the damage it does to the slab and walls below, and the contamination risk if groundwater or dirt is getting into a tank that supplies drinking water.

We waterproof overhead tanks, underground sumps and terrace tanks across Jaipur, using food-grade coatings on anything that holds drinking water.

Food-Grade Coating Is Not Optional on a Drinking Water Tank

This is the part worth being firm about. Ordinary waterproofing compounds are not certified for contact with potable water. Applied inside a drinking water tank, they can leach into the supply. Any contractor who quotes the same rate for a drinking water tank as for a terrace either has not thought about it or is planning to use the wrong product.

We use food-grade, non-toxic systems on any tank that feeds drinking water, and we tell you which product is going in before work starts. If a tank is only used for flushing or washing, a standard system is fine and costs less, so it is worth telling us what each tank actually supplies.

How We Treat a Tank

  1. Drain and clean. The tank is emptied and scrubbed back to bare surface, removing sludge, algae and any loose old coating.
  2. Crack and joint repair. Structural cracks and the wall-to-floor junction, which is where most tanks actually leak, are cut and filled before any coating goes on.
  3. Coating application. Food-grade or standard system depending on use, applied in coats with proper curing time between them.
  4. Fill and hold test. The tank is filled and the level watched over 24 to 48 hours to confirm the leak is actually gone before we call the job done.

Signs Your Tank Is Leaking

  • A damp patch, efflorescence or peeling paint on the ceiling directly below an overhead tank
  • Water level dropping overnight when nobody is drawing water
  • Persistent dampness in the ground around an underground sump
  • Visible cracks in the tank wall or at the base junction
  • Sediment or discolouration in supply water, which can mean groundwater is getting into an underground tank

Hard Water and Tanks in Jaipur

Much of Jaipur runs on borewell water with a high mineral content. That leaves scale and staining inside tanks, and over time the deposits sit on top of any coating and hold moisture against it. It is a large part of why tank coatings in this city need redoing sooner than the product datasheet suggests, and why we scrub back to bare surface rather than coating over existing buildup.

If you are getting a tank treated, it is worth doing the terrace at the same time where the tank sits on it, since access and setup are already in place. See terrace and roof waterproofing for that.

Water Tank Waterproofing FAQ

Is water tank waterproofing safe for drinking water?

Only if a food-grade, non-toxic coating is used. Standard waterproofing compounds are not certified for contact with potable water and should never be applied inside a drinking water tank. We use food-grade systems on any tank that supplies drinking water, and we will tell you which product is going in before work starts.

How much does water tank waterproofing cost in Jaipur?

Water tank waterproofing in Jaipur typically costs between ₹50 and ₹90 per square foot of internal surface. Food-grade coatings for drinking water tanks sit at the higher end, and underground sumps cost more than overhead tanks because of access and the water pressure acting on the structure from outside. See our full pricing table.

How do I know if my water tank is leaking?

The usual signs are a damp patch or efflorescence on the ceiling or wall directly below an overhead tank, a water level that drops overnight when nobody is drawing water, or persistent dampness around an underground sump. A simple overnight level check with the supply closed will confirm whether you are losing water.
